Tech giant Samsung is keeping a close eye on the advancements of artificial intelligence (AI) and what it can contribute to the future development and innovation of its hardware lineup. Allan Devantier, vice president and head of Samsung Research America’s Audio Lab, believes that AI would play a role in future audio technologies, empowering future solutions and creating big leaps in sound quality advancements. Specifically, AI can be used to help loudspeakers to play louder with more pronounced bass and less distortion, Devantier said. He added: AI can also be utilized in remastering and playing old records through adaptive technology that would allow loudspeakers sound better and adapt to various listening environments.
AI in Audio-Visual
In terms of visuals, future solutions would include adaptive video acceleration features which would make Samsung TV more responsive and able to recognize audiovisual space environments. This means an optimum and more immersive viewing, as well as better sound experience for people in the room, or even outside environment. Samsung is already experimenting with QLED solutions in TV units released this year. The sensors, Devantier said, optimize viewing for audiences even in space with high levels of noise. The system adjusts video and audio quality automatically in real-time to ensure audible sound despite peripheral noise. Devantier hopes to incorporate AI tech in Samsung’s portable speakers and other audio devices. For now, however, Devantier said that they will just have to produce solutions and incremental improvements to the quality of their audio products.
Samsung’s Standing Over the Years
In 2014, industry publications earned Samsung’s Soundbar solutions a rating of three-and-a-half stars out of five. Five years onwards, the average score for Samsung Soundbars had risen to four-and-a-half. Add to this that in 2019 the HW-Q90R premium Soundbar model received a perfect five-star rating from a number of industry publications. On top of enhancements Samsung incorporates into the pure audio sphere, the Samsung Audio Lab has supported the South Korea-based firm to achieve remarkable feats in TV sound quality as well.
